When it comes to the long-delayed Miramar Hotel redevelopment, there have been two realities going on at the same time. For developer Rick Caruso, there is the problem of endless delays and new roadblocks.

A Santa Barbara County Planning Commission meeting scheduled for June 10 has been pushed back to July amid talk of neighborhood opposition to a project that’s already been approved by the Montecito Association and others.
The delay has prompted the Los Angeles mall and mixed-use development guru to threaten to pull the plug on the project – or at least warn some area officials that he was plenty mad about the delays.
But, in the parallel universe of Santa Barbara politics, that’s not reality at all.
