But two large grape growers, who have sold their fruits to area wineries for decades, decided they want a slice of the action.
Fortunately for wine newcomers Sierra Madre Vineyard and Riverbench Winery, they picked the right time to enter the winemaking scene – the Santa Maria Valley Wine Country Association has begun seriously marketing the region.
