On July 29, the U.S. Green Building Council, or USGBC, announced the certification bodies for the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, or LEED, Green Building Rating System, as follows:

• ABS Quality Evaluations,
• BSI Management Systems America,
• Bureau Veritas North America,
• DNV Certification,
• Intertek,
• KEMA-Registered Quality,
• Lloyd’s Register Quality Assurance,
• NSF-International Strategic Registrations,
• SRI Quality System Registrar,
• Underwriters Laboratories-DQS,
In January, the USGBC plans to move administration of the LEED certification process to the Green Building Certification Institute, or GBCI, a nonprofit organization established in 2007 with the support of the green building council. GBCI will work with the selected certification bodies to “deliver a substantially improved, ISO compliant certification process that will be able to grow with the green building movement,” the council reported.
