Web 1.0 era gaming and graphics firm MetaTools is back on the South Coast.
The man at the helm, John Wilczak, is the same, but he has remade the company, salvaging the name after it became free again.
And the mission is new: Conquer Apple’s iPhone with a new iteration of MetaSquares, the puzzle game Wilczak’s firm introduced to the world in 1996, via dial-up lines and America Online.
The resurrected firm has just released a version of the game in Apple’s online application store for the iPhone. It hopes to tap casual players in the emerging mobile gaming market, which U.K. firm Juniper Research estimates will grow to $10 billion by 2009.
