Haig Fisher of Santa Barbara is one of several people who have applied for a patent for the term “Joe the plumber” and said he plans to use it on clothing: namely shirts, T-shirts, sweatshirts, shorts, hats and jackets, Bloomberg News reported Oct. 28.
Four separate trademark applications for the term were filed following presidential hopeful John McCain’s frequent mention of the name during the Oct. 15 presidential debate.
McCain used the term as a symbol of the kind of person he said would be overtaxed if Barack Obama becomes president.
