Gene Haas, the owner of Oxnard-based Haas Automation, was transferred to a Los Angeles halfway house Nov.12 from Lompoc prison. He is on track for early release from his federal sentence, according to published reports.

Haas is expected to be released May 10 after serving 16 months of his 24-month sentence for conspiring to cheat the government out of millions of dollars in taxes owed by his company. He was committed Jan. 14 to the low-security prison near Vandenberg Air Force Base.

Haas Automation is largest machine tool builder in the United States and one of Ventura County’s largest employers.

In his plea deal, he agreed to spend two years in prison and pay more than $70 million in restitution and fines, which he did.
