Protestors of budget cuts to California’s education system affecting the Oxnard School District began a weeklong fast Aug. 18 at Oxnard’s Plaza Park, according to the Ventura County Star.

The group, called STARVE, had about 50 supporters. Eight people, including state assembly candidate Das Williams and Oxnard School District board member Ana Del Rio-Barba, have pledged to observe a liquid diet. The Oxnard School District expects to cut $2 million 4 million from its budget this year.
