Longtime Santa Barbara resident and real estate agent Isaac Garrett launched his campaign for mayor Aug. 11. The former NAACP chapter president said he is against the city’s recent pay raises for employees and wants to create district elections. Another mayoral candidate, Iya Falcone, failed to garner enough valid signatures to earn a spot on the fall ballot.
Falcone turned in 118 signatures, of which 23 were not accepted, putting her five short of the minimum to appear on the ballot. The city councilmember said she would explore ways to reverse the decision after her campaign raised more than $61,000.
