We’ll give a shoutout to University of California, Santa Barbara, professor Jacqueline Stevens and reporter Kristin Collins of the Raleigh News & Observer in North Carolina.
Stevens’ research and Collins’ reporting turned up the shocking tale of Mark Lyttle, a North Carolina native who was wrongly deported to Mexico and wound up in Guatemala, where U.S. Embassy officials in one day unscrambled the puzzle that the Immigration and Naturalization officials could not.
Lyttle’s father was from Puerto Rico, he was adopted and he needs to take medication or he can become mentally unstable and make false claims such as his assertion — under duress — to INS officials that he was Mexican.
We paid the salaries of the bureaucrats who screwed up the case, we paid for his erroneous deportation, and now taxpayers, may be liable for huge damages for his wrongful arrest.
What an outrage.
