The San Luis Obispo Chamber of Commerce will have a new driving force behind it Jan. 23 when it releases its updated economic vision statement.

The SLO chamber is the oldest and largest voluntary organization in the county. The new 18-page document acts as a roadmap for the chamber, which has thrown its full weight behind the policy changes and community investments outlined in previous editions. This latest revision details long-term objectives, core values and economic principles, and a six-pronged plan to promote job growth during and after the economic downturn. The crux of the chamber’s strategy: Jumpstart local business by strengthening partnerships, cultivating tourism and developing and retaining jobs.

“The chamber really wants to work with Cal Poly and the city to harness innovation and turn it into jobs here in San Luis Obispo,” Dave Garth, the chamber’s chief executive officer, told the Business Times. “We’re experiencing a bit of a brain drain, where talented potential entrepreneurs go elsewhere to start a business.”
