Marcia Meier has been knocked around by the publishing world enough times by now to know how to navigate it. That’s because the former owner of the Santa Barbara Writers Conference has learned about writing and publishing — and business — the hard way.
Meier, who makes her living as a writing coach, recently released a book titled “Navigating the Rough Waters of Today’s Publishing World.” In celebration of her new book and her accomplishments over the years, she was honored alongside publishing icon Sara Miller McCune of Sage Publications at an Association for Women in Communications luncheon in Santa Barbara on June 4.
Afterward, Meier took a moment to sit down and talk to the Business Times about the trials and tribulations of the ever-changing publishing world, her new book, and what she learned about business from owning the now-defunct writers’ conference.
