The détente between Ventura’s business community and City Hall continued on June 12, with the city’s second “Economic Summit” and the first meeting of the economic development roundtable dubbed the “Prosperity Council.”

Close to 150 people attended the Saturday morning summit, which included sessions on four topics: “greening” the Ventura economy; enhancing the business climate; attracting and retaining innovation; and developing the city’s creative economy.

The Prosperity Council was formed on the recommendation of participants in last year’s summit. It includes representatives from the city, the Chamber of Commerce, the Visitors and Convention Bureau, and the Downtown Ventura Organization.

During the first Prosperity Council meeting, held at the conclusion of the Saturday summit, the council heard the recommendations from the morning’s discussions and assigned economic development tasks to the groups that sit on the board.

The group will meet monthly from now on, said Ventura Mayor Bill Fulton, who represents the City Council on the Prosperity Council.
