In June, the South Coast lost its direct air travel connection to Silicon Valley, a route that business leaders say is important to the region’s competitiveness. Business groups are taking action to restore it and say they need the business community’s input.
The Goleta Valley Chamber of Commerce, the Santa Barbara Airport and Citrix Online, one of Goleta’s largest technology firms, are co-sponsoring a forum that aims to get service to San Jose reinstated. The meeting will take place from noon to 1:30 p.m. on July 21 at Citrix Online’s Rincon Conference Room, at 6500 Hollister Ave. in Goleta.
A key goal of the forum is to gauge businesses’ plans for travel to San Jose. Airport officials are talking to new carriers about restoring service, and the more data they have in hand to present to candidates the better, said Kevin Schorr, vice president of air service development at InterVistas, a consulting group working with the Santa Barbara Airport.
