All of the local governments in the Tri-Counties that missed California Controller John Chiang’s initial deadline to turn in their salary and benefits data complied with the controller’s request within a few days.

The cities of Guadalupe and Grover Beach and the county of Santa Barbara were not on the controller’s original list, released Oct. 21, either because they did not turn in complete salary and benefits information on their employees or because their submissions were incomplete or improperly formatted.

All three were included in the update released by the Controller’s Office on Oct. 28.

Guadalupe City Manager Regan Candelario said his city filed its complete data before the deadline, but the state rejected it because it wasn’t in the right format. It was resubmitted and accepted by the Controller’s Office before Oct. 28.

In the aftermath of the salary scandals in Bell and Vernon, Chiang asked for complete pay and benefits information from all cities and counties. Special districts in the state have until December or next June to turn theirs in, depending on the type of district.

The Business Times’ own survey of salaries and benefits for the top administrators in each county and city in the region is at www.pacbiztimes.com, under “public sector pay data.”
