EmailA Ventura-based biodiesel company received a $1.8 million grant from the state government on July 2.
The California Energy Commission awarded the funds to Biodiesel Industries of Ventura, Assemblyman Das Williams, D-Santa Barbara, said in a press release.
The project will tap solar power and the byproducts of biodiesel production to provide power for a biodiesel plant at the U.S. Navy Base near Port Hueneme. Subcontractors will kick in $2 million in matching funds, according to the release.
“This project will further clean energy technology in California and help the state reach its renewable energy goals,” Williams said in the release.
The project is a study whose results will help in future biodiesel renewable energy production, the release said.
Obviously, it’s not profitable even though it has a stable paying customer at a U.S. Navy base and so one can reasonably wonder why California state taxes would be so blatantly squandered to prop up the liability of such a boondoggle. I thought California was having trouble with its budget. Maybe they should stick to government and stay out of the energy business or any other business; it too often gives the appearance that politicians are buying votes with taxpayer money.
