Salem Communications said Dec. 10 that it has purchased startup Twitter curation website Twitchy.com from conservative political columnist Michelle Malkin for an undisclosed sum.
Camarillo-based Salem runs dozens of Christian and conservative radio stations and websites including HotAir.com. It also publishes magazines and books under those themes.
Salem said that combined with its existing websites Townhall.com and HotAir.com, Twitchy.com creates the largest social media driven conservative platform on the Web with nearly 10 million unique readers and more than 100 million page views each month.
“In today’s lightning fast news cycle, Twitter is where news breaks and the first reactions take place. Politicians, celebrities and people everywhere have something to say on Twitter,” Salem said in a statement. “The Twitchy team monitors news and social media trends to report ‘who said what’ in U.S. politics, global news, entertainment, media and breaking news 24/7.”
Shares of Salem closed down 1.3 percent to $8.93 on Dec. 10.
