DenMat has acquired most of the dental assets of Fort Collins, Co.-based Zila and will move some of that firm’s operations to its Lompoc headquarters, the company said Feb. 20. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The portfolio includes proprietary oral hygiene products designed to detect, prevent and treat gum disease and promote oral health, DenMat said. Zila’s products include the Rotadent toothbrush and Atridox, an antibiotic treatment for periodontitis.

DenMat, which is Lompoc’s second-largest private-sector employer with about 350 employees, said some of Zila’s sales and marketing, R&D and manufacturing operations will be moved to Santa Barbara County by the end of April. The company said it has secured additional space near its 100,000-square-foot headquarters.

“This acquisition is a major milestone for us,” DenMat CEO Steve Semmelmayer said in a statement. “DenMat is not only acquiring a trusted line of professional oral hygiene products but is also expanding its North American sales and customer care team to support this significant product line growth and entry into the oral hygiene market.”

DenMat’s existing portfolio includes Lumineers dental veneers and Snap-On Smile removable arches. Last year, the company moved its headquarters from Santa Maria to 1017 W. Central Ave. in Lompoc and told the Business Times it was in expansion mode. Its annual revenue is somewhere in the $100 million range, company executives said in an interview last year.

DenMat also recently acquired PeriOptix, which makes magnification and illumination tools for dental and medical professionals, and a portfolio of restorative and impression dental products from Royal Philips Electronics.
