United Way of Ventura County honored area energy executive Scott Corby and the county of Ventura with two of its top awards at its annual Spirit of Community Partnership Awards.
Corby received the Milton M. Teague Award and county employees received the Roy Pinkerton award.
More than 1,000 county employees contributed more than $100,000 to the United Way campaign each year during the past several years, said United Way CEO David M. Smith.
This was the final program for Smith, who is retiring at the end of the month to move to Kentucky with his family. Smith is the former editorial page editor of the Ventura County Star and he noted that a major transition in nonprofit leadership is underway as he retires and Ventura County Community Foundation President and CEO Hugh Ralston moves to take over the Fresno community foundation next month.
