On Feb. 6 Cuesta College took a big step toward securing its future.

That’s when the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges formally reaffirmed Cuesta’s accreditation through 2020.
The action concludes a series of steps begun a year ago to remove the institution’s “warning” status as full reinstatement appeared likely.

The ACCJC decision this month is a victory for President Gil Stork, whose re-appointment ended a revolving door of leadership and put Cuesta back on track.

In its letter, the commission congratulated Cuesta “on the remarkable turnaround it has accomplished between 2011 and 2013.” Along the way, Cuesta has expanded scholarship programs, worked closely with its foundation and provided vastly improved support services to students.

Cuesta is now fully capable of meeting the needs of students from San Luis Obispo County and the rest of the state. And it is positioned to play a bigger and bigger role in the economic future of the region.

We offer our congratulations.
