Refugio State Beach, which was closed after an oil spill May 19, has been cleared by California State Parks to reopen at noon July 17.
Officials completed a site assessment of the state beach and deemed it safe for the public. All recreational activities will resume, including swimming, camping and fishing.
Non-state park areas to the east and south of Refugio State Beach will remain closed as cleanup work will continue, but the closures will not affect beachgoers or campers. Due to clean-up operations in those areas, the public is asked to avoid closed areas.
