Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and UC Santa Barbara received a record number of applications from prospective freshmen and transfer students.
Nearly 57,000 Cal Poly hopefuls applied for the upcoming 2016-17 school year, the college said Jan. 15 in a news release. That was a 2.8 percent increase from the incoming freshmen who applied last year and a 7.7 percent rise in transfer applications.
The California State University system also received a record number of applicants for the sixth consecutive year. More than 830,000 applications were submitted by prospective students for the fall 2016 quarter, which was 40,000 more than last year. That’s a 4.8 percent increase.
UCSB applicants also increased 10 percent to 94,015. Of those, 77,090 were submitted by prospective freshmen and 16,925 were from transfer students. California freshmen applicants increased by 3,002 year-over-year to 55,114 applications.
International applications also increased by 21 percent to 13,285 and out-of-state applicants increased by 16 percent to 8,691.
UCSB had 4,380 freshmen enrolled in 2015 and a total enrollment of about 20,000 in 2014.
