Santa Barbara-based cloud software company 123Compliance was acquired by Hamilton, N.J.-based Sparta Systems on Jan. 20.

Founded in 2011, 123Compliance develops software that helps medical companies’ products stay compliant with Food and Drug Administration regulations once research efforts are diverted to the next generation of development.

Sparta Systems is a global technology company with customers in pharmaceutical, medical device, biotech and electronics manufacturing sectors among others. It’s most popular product is TrackWise, which is a quality management software used by manufacturing and regulatory affairs workers to manage control and compliance issues.

“Combined with the proven expertise of Sparta, small and mid-sized organizations can benefit from a complete platform-based quality management solution, while larger enterprises can also leverage a best-in-class complaint handling solution,” a 123Compliance spokeswoman said in an email.

“This acquisition is a great fit for 123Compliance and we are excited to be a key part of Sparta’s broader strategy,” said 123Compliance CEO Plarent Ymeri in a news release. “Customers will be able to leverage a leading cloud solution powered by Sparta’s domain expertise and global customer reach.”

Two former Allergan employees started 123Compliance. Its services run $10,000 annually for small companies and $50,000 for medium sized-companies. The budget for larger projects is determined on a case-by-case basis.

“The FDA says, ‘Okay, I’ll let you sell the product, but we need to keep track of what’s happening with the product after it’s been approved. These are the rules you need to follow internally, and when we ask you, show me how you follow that,’” Ymeri previously told the Business Times. “So our software takes part of it that shows how these companies followed that.”
