California State University Chancellor Timothy P. White and California Faculty Association President Jennifer Eagan will hold a joint news conference at 10 a.m. April 8 to announce a tentative contract agreement between the university administration and faculty union.

A proposed five-day faculty strike, slated to begin on April 13, will be postponed pending approval and ratification of the agreement by the CFA board of directors and membership. If ratified by the CFA membership, the tentative agreement will be voted on by the CSU Board of Trustees at its May 24-25 meeting.

The union has been seeking a 5 percent pay increase for CSU faculty but, until now, the administration had offered only a 2 percent raise.

The CSU has 23 campuses, 47,000 faculty and staff and more than 470,000 students and includes Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and CSU Channel Islands. The CFA represents more than 26,000 tenured and tenure-track instructional faculty, lecturers, librarians, counselors and coaches on the 23 campuses.
