About 150 people turned out on April 9 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Ventura Oil Field.

Hosted by operator Aera Energy, the event featured cupcakes decorated with the company’s logo. “It’s unusual for an oil field to celebrate a century of operations,” said Christina Sistrunk, Aera president and CEO.

With production of 14,000 barrels a day of crude oil and 7.8 billion cubic feet of natural gas, the field is far more productive than the 100 barrels a day per well of initial production in 1916, she added.

Aera is a longtime member of both the Ventura Chamber of Commerce and the Ventura County Economic Development Association and Aera employees in Ventura are actively involved in the local community.

Aera’s community activities in Ventura and Ventura County were noted by a number of speakers, including Mayor Erik Nasarenko and Ventura Director of Parks/Recreation & Community Partnerships Elena Brokaw. “They are the definition of a community partner,” she said.

Aera is major supporter of the United Way and was honored in 2011 and 2013 with the Roy Pinkerton Award by the United Way of Ventura County.
