The Economic Vitality Corp. of San Luis Obispo County launched a web-based Economic Dashboard to give residents and businesses a quick look at the area economy.

The dashboard will get quarterly updates and it focuses on 24 key indicators for the county. EVC Chair Bruce Ray said it was “the only resource of its kind for our region.”

EVC and the nonpartisan California Business Roundtable co-produced the dashboard. The roundtable’s data portal, the California Center for Jobs and the Economy, is a frequent contributor to Vital Signs.

The SLO Economic Dashboard puts the county’s GDP at $13.1 billion in 2014, up 4.5 percent from a year earlier. Private sector employment for the second quarter of 2015 was 95,300, up 3.9 percent from the year earlier.

The dashboard says that average annual wages were $38,300 for the second quarter of 2015, up 3.2 percent from the prior year. However non-residential building permits were $24.9 million for the first quarter of 2016, down 9.3 percent from a year earlier.

Citing 2014 data, the dashboard says manufacturing wages were the highest sector with average pay of $52,183 and jobs relatively flat at 4,938. The lowest paid sector was a blend of “uniquely SLO” positions, where average pay was $26,287 for about 27,000 people.
