Resonant, a late stage Goleta development company designing small smartphone technology, announced it bought Switzerland-based GVR Trade SA on July 8 for $1.1 million in stock and cash.
Resonant designs a smartphone component called a duplexer. The duplexer acts as a phone’s eyes. A set of filters inside the duplexer selects which radio frequencies to use for sending and receiving signals and blocks unwanted signals. Each filter is a just a few millimeters in size and some sit near a phone’s internal antenna.
GVR Trade SA is a 20-year-old consulting and design company specializing in those filters. The company has worked with Resonant executives since 2008 when they started developing the technology and contracted with Resonant since its founding in 2012.
Resonant bought GVR Trade SA from its sole shareholder, Victor Plessky.
“Victor and his team add a tremendous depth of knowledge and meaningfully enhance our suite of filter design tools and throughput capabilities,” said Resonant CEO Terry Lingren in a news release.
Despite the news, Resonant shares ended down 4 cents on July 8 to $4.07 per share.
