Goleta-based telemedicine provider InTouch Health appointed Joseph DeVivo as the new CEO to replace former CEO Dr. Yulun Wang, the company announced July 19.
DeVivo was most recently the CEO of New York-based AngioDynamics, a publicly traded medical device manufacturer. He has more than 25 years of experience in the health care industry.
“InTouch Health is at a pivotal stage and is ready to accelerate growth and scale,” DeVivo said in a news release. “I look forward to leading the company’s expansion of its enterprise-wide, cloud-based telemedicine platform, while adding specialist physician led services and new clinical applications to its offering.”
Wang, who has been chairman and CEO since founding the company in 2002, will remain as chairman of the board.
InTouch Health created the Remote Presence robot, which uses cloud-based technology that allows physicians to diagnose patients from miles away.
RP-VITA drives itself using infrared cameras and receivers. It is equipped with a camera, phone, ultrasound and other medical-device ports, and a stethoscope. It also projects the physician’s face and beams test results through its LCD screen.
RP-VITA reduces healthcare costs and saves precious seconds in emergency situations, eliminating the time and distance barriers that have traditionally cut off hospital patients from proper care, Wang said at an MIT Enterprise Forum of the Central Coast in May 2015. It is being used in more than 1,200 hospitals around the country.
“Joe brings the right kind of leadership and experience to help our customers and company achieve increasing success as telehealth expands on a global scale,” Wang said in a news release.
