The Los Angeles Lakers are in discussions with UC Santa Barbara to hold training camp in Santa Barbara this year.
A university official confirmed the discussions on Aug. 25 but told the Business Times that no agreement has been reached and an official announcement will be made if a deal is finalized.
The Orange County Register reported the news on Aug. 23. Lakers spokesman John Black told the Register that training camp was originally slated to be held at the Lakers’ El Segundo practice facility but a move to Santa Barbara was in the works.
Last year, the Lakers held training camp in Honolulu, Hawaii. The Lakers’ first preseason game will be on Oct. 4 against the Sacramento Kings in Anaheim.
