A fire that destroyed San Luis Obispo High School computer lab equipment early in the morning Dec. 8 prompted Central Coast nonprofit Softec to raise funds to replace it.

The San Luis Obispo Fire Department was able to contain the fire, thought to be caused by arson, to the detached computer lab building and save the structure. The equipment contained within, including robotics equipment students on the robotics team had developed for competitions in December and January, was lost.

“We are driven to help them rebuild quickly, so that these students can get back to developing computer skills and advancing their robotics program,” Softec Vice President Stewart Morse said in a news release.

Working with the SLO Community Foundation, donations made to the tax-deductible account will go toward replacing computers, robotics equipment, desks, chairs and other tools, the release said.
