    I love the fact that we are looking at finally getting some movement on expanding the 101 through Carp. I commuted from Camarillo to Montecito for 15 months, and the north bound traffic during weekday morning drive time is horrific. Unfortunately, adding an HOV lane is not the solution. The percentage of vehicles that qualify for the HOV lane is minimal, especially based on the days of the week and hours of use; M-F, 6a-9a & 3p-6p. These are peak commuter hours and unfortunately most of the traffic is single drivers like myself (be merciful, at least I have a hybrid). An alternative would be to charge a monthly fee for single drivers who want to use the HOV lane. I would have paid $50.00/month, some mornings you could have convinced me to pay more. The irony is that there is no HOV option on weekends when more of the traffic is tourism related with driver + passengers. Cal Trans has it backwards. It seems that a simple study would help them figure this out, or at the very least, just spend some time on the 101 north on weekday mornings.
