Goleta radio frequency front-end filter designer Resonant announced additional licensing with an existing customer March 9.
The agreement provides for the development and licensing of two kinds of filters and a new design for Resonant called a Quadplexer, targeting the Chinese market. The products will use a Chip Scale Packaging design and the two filters will manage WiFi and high performance equipment.
Resonant did not disclose financial terms of the deal but said that agreements on royalties and milestone payments had been reached.
The company posted $4 million in losses in its most recent quarterly earnings reports, on revenues of $25,000. In February, it raised $7.5 million from stockholder Longboard Capital Advisors to go toward product and business development.
“We believe this extension to our licensing agreement further validates our customer’s confidence in our filter design capabilities and their intentions to commercialize the filters we are designing for them,” CEO George Holmes said in a news release, adding that “As our collaboration deepens, we look forward to pursuing additional opportunities that have the potential to further de-risk our path to revenue.”
Driven by the Chinese market, the company expects demand for more bandwidth and data use in wireless technology to result in further contracts, Holmes said. More about the new designs is discussed in the company’s whitepaper “RF Innovation and the Transition to 5G Wireless Technology.”
