Geoffrey Chase has been selected as the new provost for CSU Channel Islands. His first day on the Camarillo campus will be July 6.
Chase currently serves as a vice president at the WASC Senior College and University Commission. Previously, Chase was dean of undergraduate studies at San Diego State University, a professor at Miami University of Ohio and a faculty member and associate provost at Northern Arizona University.
During his tenure at SDSU, Chase was part of a leadership team that helped the institution increase its six-year graduation rate from 53 percent to 68.5 percent while also increasing student diversity and closing the achievement gap between majority and underrepresented minority students. During this time, SDSU also became a nationally designated Hispanic Serving Institution.
Chase was a founding board member for the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education and served as chair of the AASHE board from 2008-2011.
During his career, Chase has published articles on pedagogy, authored text books on writing in academic settings, and has lectured nationally and internationally on sustainability in higher education.
He earned a Ph.D. in 20th century American and British literature from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
