Amazon.com has acquired Santa Barbara data analysis and search engine start-up Graphiq.
The tech giant bought Graphiq in May in a bid to improve its Alexa virtual assistant, according to a July 20 report in the Los Angeles Times.
The Times reported that the deal was valued at about $50 million.
Graphiq was the PacificCoast Business Times’ fastest growing company for the tri-county region in 2014. At that time, the privately-held company had 130 employees and about $10 million in annual revenue. The company’s website currently lists about 140 employees.
The company has $32 million in funding over four rounds, led by Pritzker Group and Kleiner Perkins, according to Crunchbase. The most recent was $15 million in private equity.
Business Times phone calls to Graphiq were not answered July 21. An Amazon spokeswoman responded via email but declined to comment.
