Car makers BMW and Mini selected AeroVironment to supply its electric vehicle chargers, the company announced Sept. 20.
AeroVironment, based in Monrovia with operations in Simi Valley, began shipping its TurboCord charger to BMW in May. The 20-foot cord can plug into any 120-volt outlet or charge at 3.6 kilowatts when using a 240-volt outlet, the company said in a news release.
“BMW and Mini drivers will have charging versatility with the TurboCord, which packs flexible dual-voltage capability, nearly three-times faster charging and high safety standards into the smallest UL-listed dual-voltage charger on the market,” said Ken Karklin, vice president and general manager of AeroVironment’s efficient energy systems business segment. “TurboCord’s portability, power and convenience make it ideal for charging at home or on the go — which is what every EV driver wants.”
TurboCord also provides temperature monitoring, automatic shut-off and a waterproof enclosure for use outdoors. The company currently provides charging products for nine automakers.
The efficient energy systems segment helped boost revenues more than 20 percent in the most recent quarter, and Aerovironment said it expected full-year revenues of $280 million to $300 million.
