Goleta thermal imaging technology company Seek Thermal announced the release of a new imaging system that aims to help users detect illness like the coronavirus pandemic.
The touch-free Seek Scan system is designed to be placed at the entrance to a building and automatically screens users’ faces for skin temperature, sending an alert when it detects someone who registers above the designated temperature.
The systems are designed to measure temperature “while enabling social distancing protocols,” the company said in a news release March 27, and are designed to be easy to install.
“We are excited to bring our experience in affordable thermal imaging technology to communities around the globe by providing a simple screening solution to help make us safer,” said President and CEO Mike Muench. “Seek Scan is already being used in our factory and we believe it’s a valuable screening tool for organizations that remain operational and others as they reopen in the coming months.”
The company occupies around 30,000 square feet of space in Goleta, where it develops high-resolution thermal imaging devices for commercial and consumer markets, including firefighters, automotive and the outdoors, among others.
Pricing and availability details were unavailable as the company ramps up production, but it said the devices are “priced significantly lower than other thermal screening solutions.”
Handheld thermal imaging products sold by the company range from around $400-$800.
