Editor’s note: This article has been updated to correct a reference to Alaska Airlines’ Santa Barbara-San Diego route. That route has not begun service yet.

Alaksa Airlines will begin flying between San Luis Obispo and both Portland and San Diego on June 17.

Both routes were originally planned to start last year but were delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The airline will have two flights per day for each destination, one in each direction, and will use 76-seat Embraer E175 aircraft, according to an April 27 announcement from San Luis Obispo County Regional Airport.

“We are thrilled that Alaska Airlines remains confident in the San Luis Obispo region,” Courtney Johnson, San Luis Obispo County’s director of airports, said in the news release. “The airport team has worked hard to bring these two routes back online and operate them from a terminal with rigorous health and safety standards. As travel resumes, we hope our community will enjoy the convenience of daily flights from San Luis Obispo to warm San Diego beaches and Portland’s iconic quirky charms.”

Alaska Airlines also plans to add a Santa Barbara-San Diego route in June. Like the San Luis Obispo-San Diego service, it scheduled for last year but put off due to the pandemic.

In addition to the two new routes, Alaska Airlines also flies between San Luis Obispo and Seattle. It is one of three airlines serving San Luis Obispo — American Airlines flies to Phoenix and Dallas, while United serves Denver, San Francisco and Los Angeles from San Luis Obispo.
