    The EHR process has certainly been good for national vendors like Cerner,for example, whose shares (CERN) are up nearly 50% year-to-date. (That’s what a 25% market share will do for you). We hope that local tech folks will benefit as well, but we still have a ways to go to get a functional Health Information Exchange (HIE) locally. We do not yet have the governance,technical,or contractual framework in place to effect such a major change, which will be fiscally sustainable–(Only ~ 10% of HIE’s nationwide are currently sustainable–they have been getting by on grant money–) So–we have lots of work to do to bring this boon to patient care quality,safety,and efficiency to fruition. Collegial cooperation will be needed from competitors.
