MindBody announced details of a long-awaited partnership with global sportswear and equipment manufacturer Under Armour on Oct. 4.
Now users of Under Armour’s MyFitnessPal app will be able to find fitness classes near them through the app.
MindBody, a San Luis Obispo-based developer of merchant processing software for yoga and fitness studios, said in a news release the integration will allow MyFitnessPal users to discover, book and pay for classes at thousands of fitness studios in the MindBody network across the country.
MyFitnessPal allows users to count calories, track food and caloric intake, track their health and track calories burned during exercise. Last February, Under Armour paid $475 million acquiring the app and its 80 million users.
While Nike is the king of sports apparel and equipment, Under Armour has tried to position itself as the leader in digital fitness apps in recent years.
MindBody Chief Financial Officer Brett White first hinted about the partnership on a July second quarter earnings call when he said Under Armour and MindBody reached a partnership agreement but could not disclose details.
Analysts told the Business Times previously that Under Armour is a large brand for MindBody. White also said previously Under Armour was a “significant brand.”
With the announcement, both sides appear to be excited.
“This collaboration with Mindbody is another example of how we are exploring new ways to utilize data to bring value to our growing community,” said Mike Lee, chief digital officer of Under Armour in a news release. “We’ve learned through our combined network of more than 180 million members that people want an easy way to find and book fitness classes to ultimately improve performance.”
