San Luis Obispo County has found a new airports director in its own deputy director.
Courtney Johnson, who has been the county’s airports deputy director since January 2019, will serve in an interim role leading the agency after current director Kevin Bumen steps down on Oct. 10 to take a job at San Francisco International Airport.
In the role, Johnson will oversee a $9.1 million budget and 20 full-time employees. She will direct all activities at the airports department, including commercial and general aviation operations at both the San Luis Obispo County Regional Airport and the smaller Oceano Airport.
Johnson oversaw the airport’s finance, administration and business development functions in her previous role. She also managed the airport’s marketing strategy.
“These are unprecedented times for our airport and the aviation industry, and we are fortunate to have an exceptional team as SBP faces the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead,” Johnson said in a news release, using the abbreviation for San Luis Obispo County Regional Airport. “Together, we will continue to build upon San Luis Obispo County Regional Airport’s successful history focused on serving the community with pride.”
The San Luis Obispo County Board of Supervisors will consider Johnson’s permanent appointment at its Oct. 20 meeting.
“I look forward to what the future holds under (Johnson’s) leadership,” County Administrative Officer Wade Horton said in the news release.
