After 23 years as president and CEO, Cynthia Burton announced March 27 that she will retire from PathPoint in the summer of 2017.

Burton spent seven years with organization, which provides training and support services to people with disadvantages or disabilities, before assuming the role of CEO in 1994. Since then, PathPoint has expanded to new service areas and quadrupled its budget.

“It’s been a privilege to work for an organization that empowers people with disadvantages and disabilities,” Burton said in a statement.

She received a bachelor’s degree from UC Santa Barbara and passed the qualifying exam for Certified Public Accountant in 1991. During her tenure, Burton implemented a peer review system for quality assurance and she has twice been listed among the Business Times’ Top 50 Women in Business.

The board of directors is conducting a search for her replacement and Burton said she will work closely with the board during the transition.

With offices in San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, Ventura, Los Angeles and Kern counties, PathPoint had around 430 employees and revenues of $20.6 million in 2015.
